§ 6033 Producer Assessment Payments

• •Farmers who sell their stuff (like milk or fruits) have to pay a fee.
• •The people who buy from farmers (handlers) or farmers who sell their own stuff (producer-handlers) must collect this fee.
• •The collected fee must be sent to the secretary (a government person) following their rules.
• •This rule started in 1995.

A dairy farmer sells milk to a milk company.

The milk company has to collect a fee from the farmer and send it to the government. If the farmer sells milk directly to stores, they have to collect and send the fee themselves.
