§ 16015 Portable Classroom Lease Funding

This law lets the state board give money to a school district to pay for renting portable classrooms while new school buildings are being built, but only if certain conditions are met.

Key Takeaways

  • •The board can fund portable classrooms while a new school is being built.
  • •The district must already have received its final funding for the original construction project.
  • •The district must show either a 15%+ rise in daily attendance or many classes in triple session, and must be running continuous school programs.
  • •The extra money is added to the original project funding and is repaid under the same terms.

Example

A district is building a new high school that isn’t finished yet. Because student enrollment has jumped 20% and many classes are running in triple sessions, the district needs extra classroom space. The board can give the district extra funds to rent portable classrooms until the new building is ready.

Because the district already got its final funding for the new building, the enrollment rise is over 15%, and the district is using continuous school programs, the board can add extra money for the portable classrooms. The district will pay back this extra money the same way it repays the original building funds.

(2) A substantial number of district classes being on triple session during the period of construction, as determined by the State Allocation Board. (c) The district is making maximum use of its existing facilities through the operation of one or more continuous school programs.
