§ 16002 School District Project Definitions

This law just spells out what certain words mean when the state talks about school money – who the Board and Director are, what counts as a “project,” which grades a district can claim, and what “apportionment” means.

Key Takeaways

  • •The “Board” is the State Allocation Board and the “Director” is the state’s K‑12 education director.
  • •A “project” means any purpose a school district asks state money for.
  • •A district can only claim one grade level in each part of the rule.
  • •“Apportionment” is the money the state gives, plus any extra funds the board says the district must add.

Example

A small town school district asks the state for money to build a new computer lab for its 5th‑grade class.

The law says the word “project” includes anything the district asks money for, so the computer lab is a project. The district can only claim one grade level (like 5th grade) under the rules, and the money they get is called an “apportionment,” which also includes any extra funds the board tells them they must add in.

It is hereby declared that this construction is not intended as a change in the present law but rather as a declaration of existing law. (Repealed and added by Stats. 1996, Ch. 277, Sec. 2.
