§ 9354 Stop Payment Notice Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If you want to stop a payment for a government project, you have to follow the rules in Chapter 2 of Title 1.
  • •For state projects, tell the director of the department that gave the contract.
  • •For local projects (like city or county), tell the person or office in charge of paying for the project.

Example

A company is building a new school for a city, but they aren’t doing a good job. The city wants to stop paying them until they fix the problems.

The city must send a stop payment notice to the right person, like the city’s finance officer or the school board, to legally pause the payments.
