§ 98392 Annexation Resolution Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •The law says a special group (the board) must vote to add a new area to their district.
  • •Two-thirds of the board must agree to pass this decision.
  • •They must describe the new area’s borders and give it a name.
  • •They must say how the new area will benefit from joining the district.
  • •They must set a time and place for people to complain if they don’t like the idea.

Example

Imagine a small town wants to join a bigger school district to get better schools.

The school board must vote, and at least two-thirds of them must say yes. They have to explain where the town’s borders are, name the new area (like 'New School Zone'), and say how the town will get better schools. Then, they must let people speak up if they don’t want to join.
