Key Takeaways

  • •If at least 15% of voters in a district sign a petition, the board must look at it.
  • •The petition can ask for new transit stuff, like buses or train tracks, and to borrow money to pay for it.
  • •The board's secretary checks the signatures to make sure they're real.

Example

A group of people in a town want a new bus system.

If 15% of the voters sign a petition asking for new buses and to borrow money to pay for them, the town board must check the signatures. If enough signatures are real, the board has to consider the request.
