Key Takeaways

  • •If 15% of voters in a district sign a petition, the board must look at it.

  • •The board's secretary checks the signatures to make sure they're real.
  • •The board gets the results of the signature check.

Example

A group of people in a town want a new park and playground. They get 15% of the town's voters to sign a paper asking for it.

The town's board must check the signatures on the paper. If enough signatures are real, the board will consider building the park and borrowing money to pay for it.
