§ 80240 Brownfield Contamination Loans

Key Takeaways

  • •This law is about a loan program to check if old or unused city land is dirty or dangerous.
  • •The program helps pay for tests to see if the land could hurt people or the environment.
  • •It’s for places called 'brownfields'—old factories, gas stations, or empty lots that might be polluted.
  • •The goal is to clean up these places so they can be used again safely.

Example

There’s an old, abandoned factory in a town that nobody uses because people think the ground might be polluted.

The town can use this loan program to pay for tests to see if the factory land is actually dirty or safe. If it’s dirty, they can figure out how to clean it up so kids can play there or new buildings can be built.
