§ 110673 Food Allergen Labeling

Key Takeaways

  • •Food labels must clearly list common allergens (like nuts, milk, eggs) so people know what's inside.
  • •If a food doesn't follow these labeling rules, it's considered 'misbranded' and can't be sold.
  • •Some foods don't have to follow these rules if the federal government says they're exempt.

Example

A kid with a peanut allergy buys a cookie.

The cookie's label must say if it has peanuts. If it doesn't, and the kid gets sick, the company broke the law.
