§ 106980 Radiologic Technologist Scope Limits

This law says that even if you have a radiologic technology certification, you still can't do certain things on your own unless a certified supervisor or a licensed doctor is involved.

Key Takeaways

  • •Certification alone does NOT let you operate X‑ray machines without a certified supervisor.
  • •You cannot read X‑ray images or make a diagnosis by yourself.
  • •You cannot tell a patient a diagnosis unless a licensed doctor orders you to do so.
  • •You cannot use titles that suggest you are a doctor or other healing‑arts professional.

Example

A newly certified radiologic technologist wants to look at a patient's mammogram and tell the patient what it means without a doctor present.

The law says the technologist cannot interpret the image or give a diagnosis to the patient unless a licensed doctor orders it, so they must have a doctor or a certified supervisor do it.
