§ 103628 Solano County Vital Record Fees

This law lets Solano County raise the cost of getting official copies of marriage, birth, fetal death, and death records, but only by a small amount tied to inflation.

Key Takeaways

  • •The county can only raise these record fees by up to $2 total.
  • •Each July the fee can go up by an amount that matches the CPI rise, rounded to the nearest $0.50.
  • •Any extra charge for birth, fetal death, or death records is set by the county board.

Example

A family needs a certified copy of a birth certificate for a school enrollment and has to pay a higher fee because the county raised the price.

The county can add up to $2 to the normal fee, and each July it can add an extra amount that matches the rise in the local cost‑of‑living index, rounded to the nearest $0.50.

How to Calculate

Fee increase = round(CPI increase for the prior year to the nearest $0.50). New fee = old fee + Fee increase (but total increase cannot exceed $2).

  1. Find the change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the San Francisco metro area from last year.
  2. Round that CPI change to the nearest half‑dollar ($0.50).
  3. Add that rounded amount to the current fee, making sure the total increase does not go over $2.

The CPI went up by $0.73 from 2022 to 2023.

Result: New fee = $5.00 + $0.50 = $5.50 (the $0.50 increase is under the $2 cap).
