§ 9924 Joint Committee Establishment Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •A joint committee can only be created if two-thirds of both the Senate and Assembly agree.
  • •The committee must have an equal number of members from the Senate and the Assembly.
  • •Each house picks its members for the committee using their own rules.

Example

Imagine the Senate and Assembly want to create a committee to study school lunches.

They need at least two-thirds of both groups to agree. If they do, the committee will have the same number of members from the Senate and the Assembly. Each group picks their own members to join.
