§ 57415 County Utility Takeover Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •If a city stops being a city, the county can take over things like electricity, water, and gas that the city used to run.
  • •The county leaders (board of supervisors) can decide to keep running these services so people still have power, water, and gas.
  • •This only happens if the city is no longer a city (disincorporation).

Example

A small town votes to stop being a city and becomes part of the county instead.

The county can step in and take over running the town’s water and electricity so people don’t lose those services.
