§ 57400 City Disincorporation Effects

Key Takeaways

  • •If a city stops being a city (disincorporates), the people living there are no longer part of that city.
  • •People in that area lose the rights and duties they had as city residents, like voting in city elections.
  • •The rules of the city no longer apply to them or the land they live on.

Example

Imagine a small town called Sunnyville decides to stop being a city.

Once Sunnyville is no longer a city, the people living there can't vote in Sunnyville elections anymore, and Sunnyville's rules don't apply to them. They might follow county rules instead.
