§ 32031 County Budget Employee Matching

Key Takeaways

  • •The county must set aside enough money in its budget to match what employees pay into their retirement system.
  • •This money is added to the part of the budget that pays for workers' salaries and wages.
  • •The county has to do this every year when they plan their budget.

Example

If a teacher pays $100 every month into her retirement fund, the county must also put in $100.

The law says the county must match what workers pay into their retirement, so the teacher’s total retirement savings get $200 each month ($100 from her and $100 from the county).
