§ 32331 County Fire Budget Contributions

Key Takeaways

  • •When the county makes its budget, it must include money for workers' salaries and wages.
  • •The budget must also add extra money to cover what workers will pay into things like retirement or benefits during that time.
  • •This makes sure the county has enough money set aside for both the workers' pay and their contributions.

Example

Imagine the county is planning its budget for next year. They know they will pay their firefighters $1,000,000 in salaries.

The firefighters also pay 5% of their salary into a retirement fund. So, the county must add an extra $50,000 (5% of $1,000,000) to the budget to cover this. That way, when firefighters pay their part, the money is already there.
