§ 31982 Peace Officer Retirement Opt-Out

• •Police officers can choose to opt out of this law within 30 days of it starting or within 30 days of joining the job.
• •If they opt out, they can't join back in later.
• •They have to write down their choice to opt out.

A new police officer starts their job and decides they don't want to be part of the system described in this law.

They have 30 days from their start date to write a note saying they want to opt out. Once they do this, they can't change their mind and join back in.
