§ 31983 County Peace Officer Retirement

Key Takeaways

  • •This law is about when certain county workers (called 'county peace officers') must join a special system.
  • •If the county already had a similar rule before August 4, 1943, these workers join the system 30 days after the county leaders vote (with at least 4 out of 5 agreeing) to include them.
  • •After that vote, any new worker in this job joins the system 30 days after they start working.

Example

A county hires a new sheriff's deputy.

If the county leaders voted (with 4/5 agreeing) to include deputies in the system, the new deputy automatically joins the system 30 days after starting the job.
