Key Takeaways

  • •Marin County starts at the Pacific Ocean near Sonoma and follows the southern edge of Sonoma to Petaluma Creek.
  • •From there, it goes to a point where Marin, Sonoma, Contra Costa, and Solano meet in San Pablo Bay.
  • •The boundary then moves south along the western edge of Contra Costa in San Pablo Bay to the middle of the Straits of San Pablo.
  • •It continues south to Invincible Rock, then to Red Rock, Angel Island, Point Cavallo, Point Bonita, and finally three miles into the Pacific Ocean before heading back to the starting point.

Example

If you're driving from Sonoma to Marin County, you'll cross the county line when you reach the southern edge of Sonoma, near Petaluma Creek.

This line marks where Marin County begins, so laws and rules for Marin County start applying once you cross it.
