§ 1303 Unauthorized Public Office Exercise

Key Takeaways

  • •If you work in a government job, you must take an oath (promise) and sometimes pay a bond (like a safety deposit).
  • •If you don’t do these things, you can get in trouble (it’s called a misdemeanor).
  • •Even if you forget these steps, the work you did is still valid if it helps other people.

Example

A person gets elected as mayor but starts making decisions for the town without taking the official promise (oath) to do the job honestly.

This person could get in trouble for not following the rules, even if the decisions they made were good for the town.
