§ 5643 Abandoned Plant Removal Lien

• •If the state has to remove or destroy abandoned plants or crops on land that wasn't paid for in taxes, the cost becomes a debt tied to that land.
• •If someone buys back the land or buys it at a tax sale, the state has 120 days to ask for the money owed for removing those plants or crops.
• •After 120 days, the state can't ask for that money anymore.

Imagine your neighbor stops paying taxes on their empty lot, and weeds grow super tall. The state cleans it up but spends money doing it. Later, someone buys that lot at a tax sale.

The state has 120 days to tell the new owner to pay back the money spent on cleaning up the weeds. If the state waits longer than 120 days, they can't ask for the money anymore.
