§ 24659 Poultry Processing Plant Definition

Key Takeaways

  • •A poultry plant is where chickens or other birds are killed and cleaned for food.
  • •It also includes places where chicken meat is cooked, smoked, cut, or packed—but not regular stores or restaurants.
  • •This rule helps make sure chicken meat is handled safely before people buy it.

Example

A factory where workers cut up whole chickens into wings, breasts, and legs before sending them to grocery stores.

This factory is a poultry plant because it cuts and packs chicken meat for people to eat. A grocery store selling the chicken isn’t a poultry plant, though.
