§ 6540 Presidential Delegate Notification Deadline

Key Takeaways

  • •The leader of the American Independent Party in the state must tell the Secretary of State how many delegates will represent the state at the next national party meeting.
  • •This must be done at least 120 days before the presidential primary.
  • •This rule helps the state know how many people will be sent to the big party meeting.

Example

Imagine your school is sending students to a big science fair. The principal has to tell the fair organizers how many students are coming, so they can plan.

Just like the principal, the leader of the American Independent Party has to tell the state how many delegates (like the students) will go to the national meeting (like the science fair). They have to do this early, so everyone can get ready.
