§ 14281 Voter Ballot Marking Privacy

This law says that when you get a ballot, you must go right away to a private voting booth and fill it out, unless other specific rules apply.

Key Takeaways

  • •Go to a voting booth as soon as you get your ballot.
  • •Mark your ballot while you are alone in the booth.
  • •Only skip this step if another specific law (like § 14222 or § 14224) says you can.

Example

Jane receives her voting paper at a polling place and immediately walks to an empty voting booth to mark her choices.

Because the law requires voters to go straight to a private booth and mark the ballot, Jane follows the rule by voting alone in the booth.
