§ 9566 Tax Sale Property Deed

Key Takeaways

  • •If you buy land at a special sale, you get a paper (certificate) proving you bought it.
  • •The real owner has one year to pay back the money and get their land back.
  • •If the real owner doesn’t pay in one year, you can ask for the land to be yours forever.
  • •You need to show two papers to get the land: your buy paper and a paper from the county saying no one paid to get it back.

Example

You buy a piece of land at a county sale because the owner didn’t pay taxes. You get a certificate showing you bought it.

The original owner has one year to pay the taxes and get the land back. If they don’t, you can go to the county with your certificate and a paper from the treasurer saying no one paid. Then the county gives you the land for good.
