§ 8880 Tax Sale Property Deed

Key Takeaways

  • •If you buy land at a special sale, you get a paper (certificate) proving you bought it.
  • •The real owner has 1 year to get their land back by paying what they owe.
  • •If the real owner doesn’t pay in 1 year, you can ask for the official land papers (deed).
  • •You must show your purchase paper and a note from the county saying no one paid to get the land back.

Example

You buy a piece of land at a county sale because the owner didn’t pay taxes. You get a paper saying you bought it.

If the original owner doesn’t pay the taxes within 1 year, you can go to the county with your purchase paper and a note from the treasurer. Then, the county will give you the official deed, and the land is yours.
