• •The more your land benefits from the project, the more you have to pay.
• •The people in charge decide how much each piece of land should pay based on how much it helps.

A neighborhood often gets flooded when it rains. The city decides to build better drains to fix this.

The city will check which houses benefit the most from the new drains. If your house stays dry because of the new drains, you’ll have to pay a share of the cost. The closer you are to the drains, the more you might have to pay.
