§ 1462 Municipal Excess Water Permits

• •If a town gets permission to use more water than it needs right now, the board can let others use the extra water for a little while.
• •The town must be working on using all the water it was given, but until then, the extra can be shared.
• •This is only temporary—once the town needs the extra water, the permits for others will stop.

A small town gets permission to use 100 gallons of water a day for its people, but right now, it only uses 60 gallons.

The board can let a nearby farm use the extra 40 gallons until the town grows and needs all 100 gallons. Once the town starts using all its water, the farm has to stop using the extra.
