§ 11901 Water Project Conservation Funding

This law helps plan and build places to store water, protect fish and wildlife, and create spots for people to enjoy nature. It also makes sure these places are taken care of over time.

Key Takeaways

  • •This law is about building water projects that also help fish, wildlife, and fun activities like parks.
  • •It makes sure these places are looked after so they stay useful and enjoyable.
  • •The law doesn’t take away power from the groups already in charge of water, parks, or fish—it just adds more rules for new projects.

Example

A new dam is built to store water for a town.

The law says the dam must also include areas for fish to live and spots where people can go fishing or have picnics. The government will keep these areas nice and working well.

§ 11901 Water Project Conservation Funding

It is the purpose of this chapter to provide for the planning and construction of water storage, conservation, and regulation facilities and associated fish and wildlife and recreation features consistent with this declaration and to make provision for funds therefor on a continuing basis, and to provide for the operation and maintenance of such fish and wildlife and recreation features. In enacting this chapter, however, it is not the intent of the Legislature to diminish any existing powers of the Department of Water Resources, the Department of Parks and Recreation, or the Department of Fish and Game, but rather to provide specifically for the preservation and enhancement of fish and wildlife resources and for a system of public recreation facilities at state water projects as part of a coordinated plan for multipurpose use of these projects. (Amended by Stats. 1965, Ch. 93.)
