§ 10652 Vehicle Storage Reporting Requirement

This law says that if a car is left in a garage, repair shop, parking lot, or trailer park for 30 days, the place storing it must tell the police, who will then tell the car's owner.

Key Takeaways

  • •If your car is stored somewhere for 30 days, the place must tell the police.
  • •The police will then tell you, the owner, that your car is being stored.
  • •This rule doesn’t apply if the car is stored by the police or certain employees.

Example

You leave your car at a repair shop for a long time because you can't afford to fix it.

If the shop keeps your car for 30 days, they have to send a letter to the police, and the police will let you know your car is there.
