§ 97001 District Dissolution Election Timeline

Key Takeaways

  • •If people want to close down a special district (like a local government area), they can ask for a vote.
  • •The vote must happen within 60 days after the request is officially made.
  • •The voters in that district decide if it should be shut down or not.

Example

A group of people in a small town don’t like how their local water district is run. They collect signatures and ask for a vote to shut it down.

The town must hold a vote within 60 days of getting the request. If most voters say yes, the water district gets closed.
