§ 911 Utility Safety Incident Reports

Key Takeaways

  • •Every year, starting in 2016, a group called 'the commission' must write a report about safety problems with gas or electricity.
  • •The report must list all the safety problems they looked into, even if they’re still working on some of them.
  • •The report must say when the problem happened, why they looked into it, what kind of place it was (like a power plant), and who owns that place.
  • •The commission must also put a short version of this report on their website and link to the full one.

Example

A gas pipe explodes in a neighborhood, and people get hurt.

The commission has to write about this explosion in their yearly report. They’ll say when it happened, why they’re looking into it (like if the pipe was old or broken), and who owns the pipe. If they’re still figuring out what went wrong, they’ll say that too.
