§ 6301 Franchisee Bond Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If a company gets permission to do business in a town, the town can make them promise to follow the rules by paying a kind of insurance (called a bond).
  • •The town decides how much this insurance should cost.
  • •The company has to give this insurance to the town within 5 days after getting permission. If they don’t, the town can take away the permission and keep any money the company already paid.

Example

A company wants to set up cable TV service in a small town.

The town says, 'Okay, but you have to pay $10,000 as a promise that you’ll follow our rules, like fixing broken cables fast.' If the company doesn’t pay this money within 5 days, the town can say, 'No cable TV for you,' and keep any money the company already gave them.
