§ 30207 City Selection Committee Voting

Key Takeaways

  • •A group of people from different cities (except Los Angeles) will form a committee.
  • •Each person on the committee represents their city and can vote on decisions.
  • •The number of votes each person gets depends on how many people live in their city. For every 10,000 people (or a big part of that), they get one vote.
  • •No city can have more votes than all the other cities combined.

Example

If a small city has 15,000 people, and a big city has 50,000 people, they will have different votes on the committee.

The small city gets 1 vote for the first 10,000 people and another vote for the remaining 5,000 (since it's a big part of 10,000). The big city gets 5 votes (one for each 10,000 people). But if the big city has way more people than all the other cities together, its votes will be limited so it doesn’t have more votes than all the others combined.

For the purposes of this section, the term “major fractional part” means a fractional part larger than one-half. (Amended by Stats. 2019, Ch. 29, Sec. 132. (SB 82) Effective June 27, 2019.)
