§ 26456 Annexation Agreement Execution

Key Takeaways

  • •If most voters say yes to a proposal, the city leaders must write it down in their official notes.
  • •After writing it down, the city must sign the papers to make the annexation (adding new land to the city) official.
  • •This rule was added a long time ago, in 1955.

Example

A small town votes on whether to join a bigger nearby city.

If more than half the voters say yes, the city leaders must write down the vote result in their meeting notes. Then, they have to sign the papers to make the town officially part of the city.
