§ 235 Telegraph Line Definition

Key Takeaways

  • •A 'telegraph line' isn't just the wires—it includes everything that helps it work, like poles, cables, and even the tools used to send messages.
  • •It doesn’t matter if the message travels through wires or not—if it’s part of the telegraph system, it counts.
  • •This rule covers both the physical stuff (like poles and wires) and the property or tools owned by the company running the telegraph.

Example

A company puts up poles and wires in your neighborhood to send telegraph messages.

All those poles, wires, and even the little boxes on them are part of the 'telegraph line.' If someone damages a pole, they’re breaking the rules about telegraph lines, not just hurting a random stick.
