§ 16842 Utility Acquisition Procedures

Key Takeaways

  • •The board must get plans and cost estimates before buying any public utility stuff.
  • •They have to talk and make deals to buy these things the same way they do for other big purchases.
  • •This rule was added a long time ago, in 1953.

Example

Imagine the town wants to buy the local water plant from a company.

The board has to first figure out how much it will cost and make a plan. Then, they talk to the company to buy it, following the same steps they use for other big purchases like buying a new school building.
