§ 13577 Wastewater Discharge Abatement Actions

Key Takeaways

  • •If dirty water makes a sewer system messy or harmful, both the sewer system boss and the person who put the dirty water in can get in trouble.
  • •The law is about cleaning up or stopping the mess, not just punishing someone.
  • •It’s not just about one person—if many people add dirty water, all can be responsible.

Example

A factory dumps dirty water into the town’s sewer, and it causes bad smells and makes people sick.

The town can make both the factory and the sewer company fix the problem and stop the dirty water from causing more trouble.
