§ 13206 Bond Election Petition Process

Key Takeaways

  • •If enough people sign a petition asking for money to be borrowed for a project, the board has to set up a vote about it.
  • •The board can decide to have this vote on the same day as another big vote to save time and money.
  • •The vote is only about whether to borrow money for the project mentioned in the petition.

Example

A group of people in a town want a new park, so they collect signatures asking the town to borrow money to build it.

The town board has to set up a special vote for everyone in the town to decide if they want to borrow the money for the park. The board can choose to have this vote on the same day as another big vote, like when they vote for mayor, to make it easier.
