§ 131301 County Tax Revenue Allocation

Key Takeaways

  • •The county decides how to use the money from sales tax for transportation.
  • •The money must be spent based on the county's transportation plan.
  • •The plan lists what is most important to fix or improve first.

Example

Your county collects money from sales tax. They have a list of things they want to fix, like potholes on Main Street, then adding bike lanes, and finally building a new bus stop.

The county must use the sales tax money to fix the potholes first because that’s the top priority on their list. They can’t skip to building the bus stop before fixing the roads.
