§ 131240 County Transportation Authority Creation

Key Takeaways

  • •If a county wants to add a special sales tax for transportation, they can hold a vote.
  • •If the vote passes, a new group called a 'county transportation authority' is automatically created.
  • •This group will be in charge of spending the tax money on transportation projects.

Example

Imagine your county wants to fix potholes and build better bus routes, but they need more money.

The county asks voters to approve a small extra tax on things you buy. If most people vote 'yes,' a new group is formed to make sure the tax money is spent on roads, buses, and other transportation stuff.
