§ 11653 Director Residency Requirements

This law says only people who live in the district and can vote there can be directors, and if a board seat becomes empty because of boundary changes, the other directors can appoint someone without worrying about ward lines.

Key Takeaways

  • •Directors must live in the district and be registered voters there.
  • •If a board seat opens due to territory changes, the remaining directors can appoint a replacement.
  • •When appointing, the usual ward boundaries can be ignored.

Example

A resident of the district wants to become a director but moves to a neighboring area.

Because the person is no longer a resident of the district, they cannot serve as a director, even if they previously held the position.
