§ 105031 Board Officer Selection

This law says a board must choose one member to be the chairperson and another member to be the vice chairperson, and the vice chairperson takes over when the chairperson isn’t there.

Key Takeaways

  • •The board has to pick a chairperson from its members.
  • •The board also has to pick a vice chairperson from its members.
  • •The vice chairperson steps in to lead whenever the chairperson is absent.

Example

A city council meets and the chairperson is out sick, so the vice chairperson runs the meeting.

Because the board picked a vice chairperson, that person can lead the meeting when the chairperson can’t be there, just as the law requires.
