§ 103141 Transit District Powers Duties

This law lets the board run the transit district – they decide what transit projects to build, how to operate them, set budgets, fares, rules, and make sure the money is checked each year.

Key Takeaways

  • •The board decides what transit facilities to build and how to pay for them.
  • •It creates the yearly budget and sets pay for staff.
  • •It sets fares, rentals, and rules for using the transit system.
  • •It must adopt an administrative code and other rules by ordinance.
  • •It must have an annual CPA audit of the district’s finances.
  • •It can create advisory commissions and do anything else needed for the transit district.

Example

The board wants to raise the bus fare to cover rising fuel costs.

The board can set a new fare amount, publish the change, and make sure the money collected is audited later, all because the law gives them power to fix rates and require yearly financial checks.
