§ 1250 Request Special Notice

This law lets anyone with a stake in a dead person's estate ask the court to give them special notice about key steps in the probate process.

Key Takeaways

  • •You can ask for notice of petitions, inventories, appraisal objections, account filings, and status reports.
  • •Your request must name you and give an address where notices will be sent.
  • •The request becomes effective when delivered personally or when received if mailed or electronic.

Example

A sibling wants to know when the executor files a petition to sell the family home.

The sibling can file a written request for special notice, and the court must send them a copy of that petition so they can object or respond.
