§ 78970 Community Advisory Group Status

• •Having a community group to give advice doesn't mean the government can ignore other rules about listening to the public.
• •Older groups that were already giving advice before May 26, 1999, or special federal groups (like those for the military or energy) are not affected by this law.

A town has a group of people who give advice about cleaning up a polluted park. The town also has a rule that says they must hold public meetings to hear everyone's ideas.

Even though the town has this advice group, they still must hold the public meetings. The advice group doesn't replace the meetings.
