§ 78285 Hazardous Site Cleanup Definitions

Key Takeaways

  • •This law defines special words used in rules about cleaning up dangerous stuff (like chemicals).
  • •An 'orphan site' is a place where bad stuff (like poison) is spilled, but no one can be found to fix it.
  • •A 'responsible party' is someone who might have to clean up or pay for the mess.
  • •The 'Fund' is like a piggy bank the state uses to help pay for cleaning up these messes.

Example

A old factory closes down and leaves behind barrels of toxic waste, but the company that owned it no longer exists.

This place is called an 'orphan site' because there’s no one left to clean it up. The state might use money from the 'Fund' to pay for the cleanup since no 'responsible party' can be found.
