§ 50759 Affordable Housing Tenant Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •The government must make sure apartments are cheap for people who don't make much money.
  • •Every year, they check if tenants still qualify for the cheap rent based on their income.
  • •If a tenant's income changes, the rent must be changed within 30 days.
  • •There must be fair rules for picking who gets to live in these apartments.

Example

A family lives in an apartment where the rent is based on how much money they make. The dad gets a better job and starts earning more money.

The government checks their income every year. Since the dad's new job pays more, the rent will go up a little bit, but it must happen within 30 days of the check. The family still gets a fair price for their home.
