§ 43644 Certified Pollution Control Devices

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't sell or install a car part that claims to reduce pollution unless the state says it's okay.
  • •If you lie and say a part is approved when it's not, you can get in trouble with the law.
  • •It's okay to sell or install a pollution control part if the state has tested it and says it works for certain types of cars.

Example

A mechanic installs a special device on an old car and tells the owner it will make the car pollute less, even though the state never approved that device.

The mechanic broke the law because they sold and installed a part that wasn't certified by the state to reduce pollution. They could get fined or even arrested for this.
