§ 41861 Wildlife Habitat Burn Permits

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't burn land to help wildlife unless you get permission from the Department of Fish and Game.
  • •The Department of Fish and Game must give you a written note saying the burning is good for wildlife.
  • •You must show this note to the local air pollution officer before you start burning.
  • •If the Department of Fish and Game is doing the burning, they can give themselves permission.

Example

A farmer wants to burn some old brush on his land to make it better for deer and birds.

The farmer must first ask the Department of Fish and Game for a note saying the burning is okay. Then, he must show this note to the local air pollution officer. If he doesn't do this, he could get in trouble.
